Shimano Calcutta CT- 400B reelThe Shimano CT-400B fishing reel continues to maintain its position as one of my favorite freshwater bait- casters. This lightweight beauty earned a special place in my heart after the very first cast. Its lightweight body coupled with seamlessly smooth operation makes it an excellent reel for almost any freshwater gamefish. The Calcutta 400B possess the backbone and durability to make it a very effective weapon for both Musky and Catfish anglers. The smooth casting ability provides added casting distance which is definitely an advantage. When you team the 400B up with a quality, balanced graphite rod; you create an unbeatable angling arsenal.
The CT-400B incorporates an extremely lightweight, cold forged aluminum body manufactured for precision operation. The reel also features anti-rust stainless steel ball bearings that are definitely a plus when considering durability and continued performance capabilities. One of the greatest qualities of the Calcutta-400B is the implementation of the Dartanium Drag material. The Dartanium Drag provides one of the most variable and smoothest operating systems that Shimano has ever produced. This was one of the features that drew my attention to the CT-400B. Yes, it performs on the water just as well as it reads on paper. The reel provides solid hook-sets and has excellent freespool capabilities. Shimano's CT-400B is a blending of beauty and performance. You'll appreciate the easy access and operation of the thumb release as much as the cushioned, ergonomically designed handle system. The reel also has a line clicker for alerting bait anglers to fish runs. If you are a live bait fisherman and enjoy letting your bait do all the work, you'll appreciate the smooth integration of this feature. Close your eyes, lie back and wait for the alert. It's always a good idea to keep a safety line attached if you're going to try this method. You don't want large fish taking this reel on unexpected underwater adventures. The Calcutta 400B provides excellent line capacity and comes equipped with a 5:1 gear ratio making it an excellent choice for quickly searching large amounts of water. Take a serious look at this reel. If you plan on using any reels during extreme low temp conditions, I would suggest that you have a professional properly pack your reels with a low temp lubricant.
